Avowed's Woedica Totem fragments in Dawnshore unlock permanent buffs. This guide covers every step from cartographer clues to the final scale.

Obsidian's action RPG Avowed, released in early 2025, continues to attract treasure hunters and lore seekers well into 2026. Among the many collectibles scattered across the Living Lands, the Woedica Totem stands out as one of Dawnshore's most rewarding secrets. Comprising seven distinct fragments that form the Totem of Rightful Rulership, this set not only unlocks a side quest but also grants a permanent suite of buffs to any character once assembled at camp. With cryptic clues, hidden chambers, and tough enemy encounters along the way, collecting all pieces is a true test of exploration.

This guide covers every step of the journey — from buying the hint list to tracking down the final Golden Scale of Order. Whether you're starting a fresh playthrough or mopping up missed collectibles, the following walkthrough will ensure nothing is overlooked.

Getting Started: The Cartographer’s Clues

The quest line for the Woedica Totem naturally begins near Usher’s Hand, where the body of a cartographer tied to Sanza’s “Mapping the Living Lands” quest can be found. After clearing the immediate area of enemies, look for a grate that can be frozen using ice magic or a grenade. Breaking it open reveals a drop that leads to the Golden Plaque of Oaths — an early acquisition that kicks off the Totem of Rightful Rulership.

Once the plaque is in hand, travel to Northern Paradis and visit Sanza’s shop, located east of the main entrance. Turn in the cartographer’s map for a reward, then browse Sanza’s Quest Item inventory. The item Fragments of the Scales is sold for 500 gold. Purchasing this list formally activates the quest (if it hasn’t already triggered) and provides a set of rhyming one-line hints for every remaining piece. While poetic, each clue offers just enough direction to narrow the search — a combination of environment descriptions and cardinal hints that reward attentive explorers.

Totem Base: Scales of the Oathbinder

No fragment can be placed at camp without the base, so make this a priority. The Scales of the Oathbinder sits at the Shrine of Woedica, north of the Rise Party Camp. The shrine is easy to spot from a distance, and the base rests at its center. Grab it early to begin receiving the totem’s accumulating bonuses as you find each extra piece.

Easy Grabs: Broken Crown Jewel & Golden Plaque of Oaths

While still at Sanza’s establishment, step into his back office through the door behind the counter. On the desk lies the Broken Crown Jewel — arguably the simplest piece to snag. No combat or climbing required; just walk in and pick it up.

If you missed the Golden Plaque of Oaths earlier, double back to Usher’s Hand. Descend through the broken grate (freeze and smash it if you haven’t already) and claim the piece from the underground chamber. Having these two early fragments reduces the remaining chase to just four more.

Market District Stealth: Golden Scale of Justice

The clue for this piece mentions a balcony “overlooking booths where goods are sold.” Head to the Paridis Market District and look for a barred door with a painting on an easel nearby. The balcony above that door is the target. Enter the adjacent room, climb the ladder inside, and drop down into a cellar swarming with phantoms. Defeat them (or sneak past) and the Golden Scale of Justice will be waiting on the floor.

Lighthouse Ascent: Golden Plaque of Promises

“An amethyst light on high” points toward the western coast’s lighthouse, close to Dehengen’s Cottage. This area ties into the “Cabin Fever” quest and is heavily guarded by xaurips. Fight or avoid the scaled foes as you ascend to the top of the lighthouse. The Golden Plaque of Promises sits at the highest vantage point, rewarding those who brave the climb.

Island Trek: Golden Flames

The southeastern corner of Dawnshore’s map holds Castol’s Folly, a treacherous island accessible during the “Precious Light” quest. While progressing toward the luminous adra site, take the side path that branches from the main route. The Golden Flames lies on a rocky ledge, surrounded by hostile creatures. Stealth can make this collection far less burdensome if your level is low.

Parkour Finale: Golden Scale of Order

The last piece is tucked inside the Pargrun Cache, a dwarven stronghold east of the Overgrown Expanse Party Camp, near Strangleroot. The ruins are filled with traps and reanimated skeletons, though they pose little threat at higher levels. The real challenge is vertical. Scramble up the crumbling architecture to the very top of the stronghold, where a bird’s nest holds the Golden Scale of Order. Reaching it demands precise jumps and a bit of patience, but it marks the final step of the collection.

Assembling and Rewards

With all seven fragments — Scales of the Oathbinder (base), Broken Crown Jewel, Golden Plaque of Oaths, Golden Scale of Justice, Golden Plaque of Promises, Golden Flames, and Golden Scale of Order — return to any party camp. Interacting with the camp’s totem pedestal lets you slot each piece into place. Doing so completes the Totem of Rightful Rulership quest, triggers an ancient memory sequence, and applies a series of permanent buffs to your character.

Among the most notable bonuses is the Ring of Fire upgrade to Second Wind, which causes the ability to unleash a fiery burst upon revival or use. Other perks enhance attributes related to order, justice, and resolve, subtly empowering your build in ways that remain relevant far beyond Dawnshore.

Even one year after release, hunting down the Woedica Totem remains a standout side activity in Avowed. The blend of environmental puzzle-solving, exploration, and meaningful rewards exemplifies Obsidian’s commitment to dense world-building. Whether you chase it for the lore or the combat edge, every piece of the Totem of Rightful Rulership is worth the detour.
